Modern Pest Services – A Year In Review

Modern Pest Services ended the year on a great note and despite a still sluggish economy, we experienced steady growth and reached many of our business goals.  Here are a few highlights from the past year:

  • Modern expands with Wildlife – In March, Modern purchased a wildlife control company and over the course of the year we have built a solid foundation of wildlife work across Maine and New Hampshire placing dedicated Wildlife Service Professionals in four of our five service centers.

Say No to “Do-It-Yourself” Bed Bug Control

We know bed bugs are nasty pests and if you find them in your home, the first thing you want to do is get rid of them as soon as possible. However, popular, “do-it-yourself” pesticide treatments including bug bombs, repellent sprays, natural oils, and store bought chemical applications are not recommended. In fact, applying pesticides on your own or improperly using pesticides will not only prove to be ineffective, the results can also be dangerous to your home and your family’s health.

Modern Team Gathers for Fall Training

On December first, Modern Pest Services held its seasonal training seminar in Portland, ME, with over 120 employees in attendance, including service and sales professionals, administrative staff, contact center representatives, and members of management. Along with Spring training, the Fall training meeting ensures that Modern employees remain well-informed and up-to-date on new information in the pest control field. This season, we were joined by two guest speakers from top pest control companies.

Heat treatment becoming a popular option to control bed bug infestations

Portable electric heaters and high temperature fans are used as part of the heat treatment process to kill bed bugs.

Bed bug infestations are in the news on a daily basis and are proving to be a formidable problem and big concern for many cities and towns throughout New England and across the nation. With bed bug infestations on the rise, heat treatment is becoming more popular.

Bed bugs are elusive, hardy pests
Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are small, nocturnal creatures that primarily dine on the blood of humans, but can live up to 12 months without a blood meal. Though they do not transmit diseases, their bites can become red, itchy welts, sometimes causing an allergic reaction. Bed bugs are elusive, hiding in mattresses and tiny cracks and crevices close to where humans rest and sleep, and their presence can take an emotional toll on their hosts.

Pest control alternative uses heat to eradicate unwanted house guests!

Thermal Remediation is becoming more popular as an alternative solution to eliminate common household pests. Also called Heat Treatment, this new green technique is designed to kill pests and termites, all by using dry heat.

No more tents, chemicals, or evacuation needed. Heat is elevated to a range of 120 degrees to 150 degrees inside the location, for up to 8 hours. The lethal temperatures suffocate drywood termites, Bed Bugs, beetles, cockroaches, and their eggs, ensuring there are no survivors.
