Appearance
The adult silverfish, not including the tails is about 1/2 - 3/4 inch in length. The body is silvery and shaped similar to a carrot, tapering from head to rear. They have three long appendages projecting from their rear.Habits
Silverfish prefer warm, moist locations within a structure. During the day, they typically hide in cracks and crevices. They can be found almost anywhere in a house or garage. They will roam until they find a food source, and then remain close to it. Outdoors, they can be found in mulch, under siding and roof shingles.Diet
They feed on paper, books, cloth, some dried meats and dead insects.Reproduction
The female can reach reproductive maturity in as little as 3 to 4 months. At this time, she will lay 1 to 3 eggs in cracks and under objects. The eggs will hatch in approximately 43 days if temperatures are favorable.Latin Name
