Winter Ice Dam Removal

Winter Ice Dam Removal

Ice Dam Solution?

LOW PRESSURE STEAMING

Living in a cold weather environment means protecting New England homes from ice and snow damage. Modern Pest Heroes have worked to acquire a safe solution to damaging ice dams that become a reality throughout the winter.

Low pressure, ice-removal steamers are safe enough to use on asphalt roofing materials, yet is efficient in removing ice dams. Relying on high temperatures, these systems use a directed cloud of steam, with low pressure, to remove snow and ice before permanent damage can occur. As soon as the first freeze hits, Modern Pest can effectively use our mobile and rugged ice dam steamers to help minimize or eradicate the damage.

Our team are members of “Ice Dam Steaming Association for Education (IDSAFE),” and have pledged to use only safe, non-damaging methods to remove ice dams.

Every season brings a new threat, and this winter is no different.

What is an Ice Dam?

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof which prevents melting snow from draining as it should.  Water can damage the home’s insulation, drywall, and electrical systems. It may lead to dangerous rotting wood, mold, and pest issues in the spring.

What Causes an Ice Dam?

Ice dams and roof ice occur on sloping roofs in cold climates; Heat escapes through the attic or top level of the home from poor roof insulation or ventilation. The warm roof and heat conducted through the roof, melt the snow.  Warmer and sunny days can force the snow and ice to go through a “freeze-thaw cycle.” This snowmelt continues to run down the roof on cold nights and freezes when it contacts the cold air.

The runoff blocked by the ice dam can then seep back into the home, causing significant damage.  Wet and settled wall insulations, stained walls and ceilings are a few indicators of an ice dam problem.

Ice Dam Removal Facts:arcticsteamer-dropshadow

  • Ice dam steamers designed for use in cold temperatures to remove ice.
  • Typical pressure washers use a trigger system that can cause long term damage to roofs. Ice dam steamers use a gentle, open gun and steam nozzle.
  • The spray is gentle and will not damage a roof like a pressure washer, hammer, or pick ax.
  • The use of chemicals and ice melting products can cause a larger problem as more snow and ice melt turn into liquid, refreeze and cause more damage to homes and businesses. With no chemicals, the ice is gently removed.
  • Without adequate removal, serious water damage, mold, and pest problems may occur.
