Integrated Mosquito Management Solutions

Mosquito populations can explode quickly — one female can lay over a hundred eggs at a time, and those eggs can mature in less than a week. That’s why our service emphasizes biology first: we treat the areas pests actually use.

Our technicians follow Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles by inspecting for standing water, shady vegetation, dense brush, tree lines, and places where moisture accumulates — because mosquitoes don’t live in open grass. They rest on the underside of leaves, shrubs, and shaded vegetation. That is why our service uses precision fogging, not broad lawn spraying.

Tick activity is also concentrated in leaf litter, shaded soil, and low vegetation — not in the lawn itself. When needed, we apply granular material to those low-lying problem areas where fogging cannot reach effectively.

IPM isn’t generic here — it means applying the right method in the right place, based on how each pest actually behaves.

With our mosquito control services, we apply low‑toxicity treatments six times between April and September. Each visit targets the biology of the pests we’re dealing with:

  • Fogging coats the vegetation where mosquitoes rest and where fleas and ticks shelter
  • Granules, used in the PLUS program, treat the soil and leaf litter layer where ticks develop
  • Repeat applications interrupt the reproductive cycles that would otherwise repopulate your yard every few weeks

By focusing on habitat, timing, and life cycles, we deliver real, sustainable reduction throughout the season.

Guard Your Yard This Season

Modern’s Mosquito Program Includes Flea & Tick Protection

Mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks thrive in the same shaded, humid areas of your yard — which is why our Mosquito, Flea & Tick program targets all three pests as part of one integrated treatment. This is not an additional service or separate add‑on. Every scheduled visit includes treatment for mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks at the same time.
For properties with heavier tick pressure or wooded boundaries, the Plus program strengthens tick protection with two additional granular applications placed in the low, shaded groundcover where ticks develop — giving you deeper coverage without requiring a separate appointment.

Why Pest Control for Mosquitoes, Fleas and Ticks?

Many of the diseases that these insects transfer to humans can cause serious health issues, and even death. Our Mosquito, Flea, and Tick Control Program is designed to focus on the areas of your property where you and your family frequent the most when enjoying the outdoors and limiting the number of insects that could cause harm to your family.

Fleas

Fleas are small, wingless, 1/12th – 1/16th inches long in size. They are covered in spines with piercing mouthparts. Most diseases that are spread by fleas will infect your pets while the infected adult flea is feeding.

Additionally, parasites can be transmitted through accidental ingestion of flea eggs. Flea bites are usually found on the ankles and legs. Pain may last a few minutes, hours, or days depending on one’s sensitivity.

Ticks

American Dog Ticks, Brown Dog Ticks and Black Legged Deer Ticks are the most common species. Infestations have been on the rise here over the past few years, which is a large concern.

Ticks not only cause discomfort and irritation, they are carriers of diseases such as Lyme Disease and Powassan. Ticks cannot hop or fly and must latch on to their targets from elevated surfaces such as tall grass and overgrown wooded areas. The perimeter of your home is susceptible to infestation.

Can pest control get rid of mosquitoes?

Mosquito pest control services can greatly reduce the population on your property, including the existing bugs and the places where they breed. It’s important, though, to make the right choice among mosquito control companies in the area—choosing one with professional expertise to optimally apply safe, effective treatments. Part of this is knowing where mosquitoes like to hide, and our expert technicians know where to find them: in wooded areas, underneath foliage, in damp and shady spots on your property, and so forth. With the right number of treatments each year (six between April through September), your family can enjoy spending time outdoors without mosquito interference.

Is it worth spraying for mosquitoes?

By choosing the right mosquito extermination services—ones that are safe, effective, and cost-efficient—the answer is a resounding yes. Infected mosquitoes can carry a range of dangerous diseases that can be transmitted to people and pets with a single bite. Because you can’t tell which of these bugs carry disease, you’ll want to get rid of them all. Doing so protects your family and guests and also allows you to enjoy being outdoors without getting harassed by these pesky, biting critters.

How do exterminators get rid of mosquitoes?

Although we can’t speak for other mosquito control companies (only for ourselves), our exterminators apply a low-toxicity product on your property monthly from April through September. We focus on a three to five foot band along the perimeter’s foliage, placing special emphasis on damp, shady areas, beneath your foliage, and in wooded spaces. Our mosquito exterminators have the expertise to locate and treat any other areas of concern on your unique property. Besides getting rid of the current bugs, we’ll also get rid of their breeding sites to stop reproduction in its tracks.

How do I stop itching mosquito bites?

Hard as it may be, try not to itch, which can only worsen the problem. According to the Cleveland Clinic, taking an antihistamine can help, either in a pill or cream form. Or apply aloe vera or oatmeal made into a soothing paste. The National Library of Medicine recommends applications of topical hydrocortisone to treat itchiness. If you don’t have any of these treatments on hand, you can apply cold compresses for ten to fifteen minutes. If you experience an allergic reaction or have other symptoms after a mosquito bite (like a headache or fever), consult your doctor.

How much does an exterminator cost for mosquitoes?

Whether you need mosquito control in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Connecticut, Modern Pest Services customizes pricing for your specific situation. This includes the size of your property, the scope of your mosquito presence, and so forth. Personalizing pricing means that you never pay more than you should with owners of smaller properties and/or less invasive problems (all other issues being equal) paying less. Do I need to be home for my service to be performed?

No. This treatment is an exterior yard treatment and does not require anyone to be home.

What kind of results should I expect from my Mosquito, Flea, and Tick Treatment?

Results can vary slightly from yard to yard depending on conditions in and around your yard / neighborhood. This is a reduction service and not a complete elimination of the vector species (mosquito / flea / tick). There should be a noticeable reduction in mosquitoes / fleas / ticks in your yard, however, this does not mean that your yard will have no activity or result in zero bites.

How long after my service is complete can my kids/pets go outside?

Modern Pest recommends that kids/pets stay inside while the treatment is being performed and remain there until the product completely dries, which typically happens in as little as 15-20 minutes on an average day.

Do I need to prepare for the treatment?

Yes, preparation for your mosquito, flea, and tick service consists of making sure that all locked areas are open, all children’s toys and items in the yard are cleared, and pets are left inside in case nobody is home when we arrive. Your lawn should also be mowed 1-2 days prior to service.
