Reduce Tick Activity With YardGuard

Seasonal protection for the areas where your family and pets spend time.

Wooded edges, shaded vegetation, tall grass, leaf litter and the animals that move through New England yards can all support tick activity. Modern Pest provides seasonal tick control in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island through YardGuard. The program targets ticks along with mosquitoes and fleas using scheduled applications focused on the parts of your property where these pests are most likely to rest and develop.

How YardGuard Tick Treatments Work

At each scheduled visit, your technician evaluates conditions around the yard and focuses treatment on likely tick zones such as wooded edges, shaded foliage, tall grass and areas near leaf litter or groundcover. Regular applications help reduce tick populations during the active season. We also explain practical steps you can take—such as clearing leaf litter, trimming vegetation and creating separation between lawn and woods—to make the property less favorable to ticks.

Choose Your Level of YardGuard Protection

YardGuard treats mosquitoes, fleas and ticks together. Choose standard seasonal coverage or YardGuard Plus for two additional granular applications in key tick zones.

YardGuard

Our standard seasonal program uses six scheduled liquid applications to reduce mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. Treatment is focused on likely activity areas such as shaded foliage, lawn edges and the transition between maintained lawn and wooded areas.

Six traditional applications throughout the season

Effective control of mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks

Peace of mind for your family and pets

Enjoy your outdoor spaces again

YardGuard Plus

YardGuard Plus includes the six scheduled liquid applications plus two granular applications in key tick zones. It is designed for properties with wooded edges, dense landscaping or other conditions that can create greater tick pressure.

Six traditional applications for continuous coverage

Two extra granular applications for enhanced, extended protection

The ultimate defense for worry-free outdoor living all season

Best for larger yards or those with heavier pest problems

Ticks Commonly Found in New England

Blacklegged ticks, American dog ticks and lone star ticks may be encountered in New England. Different tick species can transmit illnesses, including Lyme disease, anaplasmosis and Powassan virus. Yard treatments cannot eliminate every tick or replace personal precautions, but they can help reduce tick activity in the outdoor areas you use most.

Where Ticks Hide Around New England Yards

Ticks favor humid, shaded areas rather than the middle of a sunny, closely cut lawn. Common activity zones include wooded borders, stone walls, tall grass, groundcover, brush, leaf litter and places where pets or wildlife travel. YardGuard concentrates service on these likely habitats instead of treating every part of the property the same way.

What To Do If A Tick Bites You Or Your Pet

If you discover a tick attached to yourself or a pet, do not panic, but act quickly:

Save the Tick: Place the tick in a sealed bag or jar. If you develop a rash or fever, your doctor may want to identify or test the tick.

Use Fine-Tipped Tweezers: Grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible.

Pull Upward: Use steady, even pressure to pull the tick straight out. Avoid twisting, which can cause the mouthparts to break off and remain in the skin.

Clean the Area: Thoroughly clean the bite site and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.

Tick Control FAQs

Don’t see your question answered? Get in touch today!

How much does professional tick control cost?

Tick-control pricing varies based on property size, landscape conditions and whether standard YardGuard or YardGuard Plus is recommended. Modern provides a free quote after assessing your needs over the phone. You can also save $100 when you bundle YardGuard with HomeCare Green.

How often should I spray my yard for tick control?

YardGuard includes six scheduled liquid applications during the active season. YardGuard Plus adds two granular applications in key tick zones. Regular service helps reduce mosquito, flea and tick populations as conditions change throughout the warmer months.

When are ticks the most active in New England?

Ticks can be active whenever temperatures are above freezing, but activity commonly increases from spring through fall. Blacklegged tick nymphs are especially active in late spring and summer. That is why YardGuard uses recurring seasonal applications instead of relying on a single treatment.

Why am I finding so many ticks in my house?

Ticks usually enter homes on people, pets or clothing rather than establishing a typical indoor infestation. Check family members and pets after time outdoors, place outdoor clothing in a dryer on high heat when appropriate and speak with a veterinarian about pet tick prevention. YardGuard helps reduce activity in treated outdoor areas.

What does Modern Pest Services use to repel ticks and mosquitoes?

Modern applies products selected for the site and targeted to likely mosquito, flea and tick activity areas, including shaded foliage and yard edges. Your technician will explain any preparation and re-entry instructions for the products used at your property. YardGuard treats all three pests as part of the same program.

The result? Fewer pests, more time outdoors, and a yard you can actually enjoy all season long.
