Temperatures are dropping and the snow is starting to fall.
November is here and it’s cold outside. People are trying to stay warm, and so are mice and rats. They seek shelter when the temperature drops, and your home is the perfect warm and cozy retreat. Rodents invade an estimated 21 million homes in the U.S. every winter, according to the National Pest Management Association (NPMA).
Don’t let mice and rats make your home their winter retreat. Call Modern Pest today!
Are Mice Already in Inside?
You might not know mice have moved into your home right away. They love to hide in the shadows, in corners, and in “squeeze points” where their whiskers touch the ceiling and they know larger predators can’t get them. Mice seek protected areas and hide in spots such as:
- Cavities and hollows
- Narrow floor voids
- Under or behind appliances
- In kitchen and bathroom cabinets
“What’s the big deal? I’ll just put out a trap.”
A rodent infestation isn’t a problem you want to tackle yourself. Mice and rats can spread disease and cause serious health risks, as well as expensive property damage.
According to the NPMA, the accumulation of feces from mice and rats can spread bacteria, contaminate food sources, and trigger allergic reactions in humans. Dried fecal matter can be hazardous when inhaled.
Mice and rats spread diseases such as:
- Bubonic Plague
- Rat-bite Fever
Rats and mice have rapid reproduction rates, so an infestation can occur quickly. A female mouse can have as many as twelve babies every three weeks. Don’t let your home become a winter retreat for rodents. Modern Pest can help!
